A major new art exhibition in London is putting contemporary tapestry and textile art in the spotlight, bringing together more than 20 works by leading artists and master weavers.
Titled Beyond Bayeux: Tapestry Now, the exhibition opened at Guildhall Art Gallery on 23 October 2026 and runs until 21 March 2027. It explores how artists are reimagining tapestry, a historic art form, through contemporary ideas, materials and techniques.
The exhibition features work created with Dovecot Studios, the renowned Edinburgh-based tapestry studio, in collaboration with artists including David Hockney, Yinka Shonibare, Alberta Whittle, Rachel Maclean and Hurvin Anderson.
Presented alongside renewed public interest in the historic Bayeux Tapestry, the show highlights the continuing relevance of textile craftsmanship in modern visual culture.
Visitors can attend at Guildhall Art Gallery in the City of London. Admission is pay-what-you-can, making the exhibition an accessible option for people interested in contemporary art, textiles and British cultural heritage. Visitors should check the gallery's latest arrangements before travelling.
